The National Science Foundation Center for Biophotonics Science and Technology (CBST), Oak Park Research Building (OPRB) is located on the UC Davis Medical Center campus inSacramento, California.
Construction of this 9,679 ft2state of the art facilitywas completed in June2005. The Center adds several new researchcapabilities tothe UC Davis Medical Center and nearby UC Davis main campus. The OPRB is the primary location for several ongoing research projects, available for use by all Center participants, and also open to researchers outside the Center as a collaborative facility. The OPRB facility includes CBST’s central laboratories (Research 1-4), administrative offices, meeting and seminar rooms equipped with high-speed videoconferencing equipment to connect to remote sites, student/post-doctoral researcher offices, and student/faculty exchange space. The research labs are configured with controlled, interlocked access and ready to be customized by optional retractable curtains. The rooms are fully equipped with the required facilities for the operation of high-power laser sources including appropriate electrical supply, low conductivity water, and laboratory gases, as well as providing chemical safety hoods and wet laboratory space. The facility also has a ~800 sq. ft. dedicated teaching laboratory/classroom focused on the education of K-16 students and teachers, interdisciplinary researchers and industrial affiliates. Furthermore, the close proximity to the other OPRB occupants, research groups from the Department of Radiation Oncology, Infectious Disease, Hematology-Oncology, and the Center for Healthy Aging, allows for potential collaborations and the flexibility to share space and resources when appropriate. The details of each laboratory and its instrument capabilities are described below.
The CBST Oak Park research facility is primarily intended for researchers involved in CBST funded projects. Facility access and scheduling is handled by the Facility Director with oversight by a User Committee (whose members are S&T ADs, the Center Director, and representatives of the user community) in a manner consistent with written guidelines and policies. Facility access by industrial users will be made on a case-by-case basis and requires a contractual agreement that specifies a negotiated user fee. Final decisions are approved by the CBST Director.
